Octagion Games. We're OG.
Octagion Games was founded in 2025 by Shawn Hewitt, a retired IT professional from Cottage Grove, Minnesota. Shawn is joined by daughter Ashley Hewitt and spouse Cheryl Hewitt in creating the OG card game Octagion, a fast-paced word-building game.
Cheryl is a part-time water fitness instructor and Ashley is a missionary-in-training.
Where did this come from?
OCTAGION began about 30 years ago as a Christmas party game. Cheryl likes big parties! The arrangement was that Cheryl make treats for the party, and Shawn come up with the entertainment.
Having found no good off-the-shelf party games for mixers, Shawn came up with his own. He made a word game for 8 people on a team. He made packets of letter size paper with six sheets, each having a letter on it. Eight different packets made up a set, and one of these packets was given to each member of a team. Sometimes we played with as many as 8 teams (64 people!).
The idea was that Shawn would announce an 8-letter word (which he determined would fit the collection of letters). After shouting "go!", each team member had to find their correct letter, and rearrange themselves to spell the word correctly. The team coming up with a correct solution was the winner.
It was a hit. People seemed to like it, and we've played it nearly every year since then.
Having recently retired, Shawn decided on December 15, 2024 (the day after the Christmas party), that the time had come to make this into a real game. Which leads us to today. The card version of OCTAGION can be played with both small groups as well as the Large Party Game.

The rest of the family
We don't want to leave out our son-in-law Austin and daughter Rachel. Austin is a great guy - the son we never had. And Rachel is about the hardest-working kid I've ever known. They're busy with their own careers, but we're just so proud of them, that we had to include them, too.
